  • Yurts

It may surprise you to know the numerous places in Colorado from which you can rent a yurt. A few options include AirBnB yurts, there are 20 or so of them in almost every conceivable variety.  Colorado Yurt Company has yurts that you can both view and stay in.   • Cabins in State Parks and on State Land

Of course you can camp in Colorado’s State Parks, but why not glamp, in a state owned cabin for not much more money and a lot more comfort. Seven of Colorado’s State Parks, from Mueller State Park near Colorado Springs and Golden Gate Canyon State Park to Steamboat Lake State Park or Vega State Park southwest of Glenwood Springs. See all State Park cabins as well as the unique USDA cabins which are not only charming but budget friendly (some for as little as $20/night).   • Tiny House Hotel in Lyons, Colorado

Headed to Rocky Mountain National Park and looking for a unique place to stay? Check out Wee Casa in Lyons, Colorado, 30 minutes outside of the park. Each of the 12 tiny homes ranges between 135 and 250 square feet each and ooze charm and character.

  • Restored RVs

Colorado, being Colorado, has not one but many options if staying in a restored vintage RV suits you. Check out Starlite Classic Campground in Canon City to have your pick of ten mid-century RVs or trailers.

  • Sleep in a Fire Tower

Fifty five feet in the in air and a few miles outside of Mancos, Colorado (northeast of Mesa Verde) is Jersey Jim’s Fire Tower used as a fire lookout by the US Forest Service until the 1970s. True to its original form it comes with the actual furniture used at the time, heat, lights, a refrigerator and a stove. You can stay in the fire tower for a budget friendly $40 / night, late May through mid-October.

Although Colorado has four national parks, there is only of them that has lodging – Mesa Verde National Park.
